The Autoharp is a musical string instrument having a series of chord bars attached to dampers, which, when depressed, mute all the strings other than those that form the desired chord.

The word “Autoharp” is owned by Oscar Schmidt. There are a number of custom Autoharp builders and most refer to their instruments as Chorded Zithers. Despite that, we all usually refer to these instruments as Autoharps no matter who manufactured it.
